Grooming has always been Maddie's calling. She loves what she does and has help from her familiar Mortimer... who happens to be a raccoon. Being a witch can have its advantages even if she is a mediocre one at that. Maddie had the ability to speak to the animals she grooms.

When Maddie's ex, Blaine Hynes, walks into her shop with his dog, Shep, she wishes she could read his mind. The cherry on top is that Blaine's veterinarian clinic may be opening right next door to her own.
